Re: Who was the first 10 sec. stick Stocker and
Paul, I used to have one of those '57 Chevy's. 210 four door hardtop. Ran F/S w/220hp & a 3 speed stick. Fit right at the top of the class (3316 shipping weight = 15.07 p/w). All the 2 drs. ran E/S and the wagons & convertibles were a least 100 lbs. heaver. Ran low 15's @ 91-92 mph and I thought I was flying.
Used to drive to the races, open the dumps, race, close them and drive back home (until we puit the 5.13 rear in).
When we started flat towing it (on the ground) I thought we were a 1st class jr. stock team.
By the way, this was back in 1963. I was a married college strudent with a kid. Could barely afford the entry fee each week. Raced for a trophy & a $25 gift certificate from Murray's Auto Supply in Miami (still in business) and had a ball.
Now I have a car 3 sec. faster, that doesn't feel nearly as fast. Go figure. I guess it's because the other cars are so much faster now.
Don't think I have as much fun as I did back then, but it still beats the heck out of fishing, hunting or golf.
