I really do not see any "performance" advantage here, but it is moving the battery from the stock location...

damn good question!
6cyl americans had the battery on the drivers side and the v-8's had it on the passenger side
btw, didn't 1st gen camaros have it on the passenger side and firebirds on the drivers or am i getting senile?
