Default Re: Congrats to Jerry McNeish new D/S Record

This is an amazing acomplishment! First of all the weather was not all that great, when Jerry made this incredible pass! The DA was about 1100 feet and the baro was around 29.65 (Which is no where near mineshaft conditions)

I have known Jerry for the better part of 35 years and he is a unique individual, the word "Quit" is not in his vocabulary. He has encountered more than enough bad luck during the last couple of months. This includes breaking a Jerico, ruining his good clutch and blowing up his new "Bub" engine, all in one run. While most racers would just go back home and rest, our boy Jerry had other plans! The smoke was still blowing off of the spun bearings, while he was on the cell phone (which I believe is attached to his left hand) making sure that his fresh engine was shipped in time, so that he could perform the swap, when he got home. Jerry is not much of a spectator, so while still in Carolina, he personally visited Jerico and spent $2600.00 for a transmission tune up. Did I mention that Jerry also believes in stimulating our economy.
Once he got back home the team put the Z-28 back in running condition in two days and then full speed to Atco for the National Open. Here the air was good and Jerry was ready to attempt a record run, but no as Howard Cosell once said. More bad luck, a clutch problem ambushed my friend on the starting line. Again any normal racer, who is not on a mission, would take a step back. Not Jerry, back to the garage pull the clutch out and make a road trip to Nitro Nick, back to the garage and install the new clutch for the Atco points race in two days. Thursday Test and tune proved to be another all nighter for Jerry, as the clutch again was a PROBLEM! Can't give up now, pull the trans and clutch, consult with Sam Murray "The Godfather of Stick shift racing" and after several hours passed at last, a complete pass was made! Wow I am tired just relaying the story. Well the rest is history and I want to congradulate my friend, who still had enough in him to stop and help me with a tire blowout on the way home from Atco. I hope the rest of the season is a little easier on two old guys!
