I have a friend who lives just down the road who has a transmission shop who will help me for free. He has about 25 years experinece with trannys so I'll take it to him as I don't have much space to work on it.

That's good news, I was hoping that you would get something like that arranged. He may be able to fix it just by dropping the pan and the valvebody.
