Re: Barrett-Jackson
I enjoy watching the shows strictly for the love of the cars as a car show - nothing more. I know I will not be able to afford these cars, but it is nice to be able to see the cars go across the block and talk to my wife or kids about the various models. The biggest drama I see are the number of commercials. Speed cannot show more than three BJ cars without going to a commercial break and sometimes just one car then to commercials. That is the shame of the BJ show. Mecum does not have the number of commercials and I do not catch much of the RS auctions.
There are pros and cons to having the "no reserve" bids. You can certainly take it in the shorts on some of the cars. The 427/400 66-67 Corvette that sold for 50k without the original motor seemed like a good buy. I know if I were to buy a mid year Vette, it would be one that I could drive around without fear of road debris knicks or worse. I do not think many people could replicate that particular car for that amount of money.
Have you noticed how quick or delayed the auctioneer is on dropping the hammer? Seems like they are pushing some cars across and drop the hammers too quick while other cars they are creating and dragging on the drama well past any further bids.
I'll continue to watch the auctions although the tv at work does not have Speed or HD Theatre channels. So I'll catch the reruns of BJ and Mecum when I can.
