Is it better than the first go-round with this idiotic rule? Absolutely. But, all this change did was make it go from INSANELY IDIOTIC to Completely Idiotic. Should everyone run a diaper on their car for safety purposes? Absolutely. But, a diaper does not cure all with regard to the oildown penalty. Blow a tranny and leak some fluid on the track? Penalty. Blow a head gasket and put some coolant on the track? Penalty. Master cylinder leak? Penalty. Catastrophic rear-end failure? Penalty.
And what's worst about this (as somebody else mentioned), is with us you're just adding insult to injury. Shame on me for not running a diaper when I blew my motor up at Atco a couple of years ago, but adding the $250 fine to the catastrophic damage that just occurred to my motor would have been like kicking me in the balls when I got out of the car. Though to be perfectly honest, I probably could have accepted the $250 fine BECAUSE I didn't have a diaper on the car at the time. If I'm adhering to all of your rules and put oil on the track though, I don't feel I should be fined for such an infraction.
Plus, what constitutes a fine? This has NEVER been defined. I've heard MULTIPLE horror stories about guys being fined because they deposited fluid on the track that was easily cleaned up with a mop. Where does it stop? When will they start fining up for dragging water from the burnout box up to the starting line?
