Re: Ihra tucson!
Quite a few of the NHRA racers have a stigma about racing IHRA for these reasons. They don't seem to be as professional as NHRA, very low payouts (but probably getting closer), majority of 1/8 tracks (but not in all areas and getting better), Crate Motor Classes/GT Stock Classes, questionable tear downs (pump and weigh for Record), and prior bad experiences in years past. These are just some of the things that keep the car counts down at IHRA events. But I will say that they do make you feel welcome, and want you to enjoy the IHRA experience. They try and overcome the obvious differences by being better hosts and there is nothing wrong with that.
Being you are only about 150 miles away I would suggest that you load up the Mustang and find out for yourself (IF they are going to have a S/SS Combo?). What else do you have to do at your age, you ain't getting any younger Pal. Give them a shot and you might become a regular. With all the BS coming down NHRA way, one needs to find an alternative place to race or sell your shix!
I plan on running some IHRA stuff this year as well as some NHRA races, as somebody said we ain't getting any younger and its about the only thrill I get these days.
Good Lord willing I will be coming out for the Nationals there this fall and then maybe on to Vegas, bout time for another Road Trip, Huh!!
