Mike, I think it is fairly common in many states to find that they require either commercial or farm tags to allow you to make use of the GVWR of one of those trucks. Most standard policies do not cover a vehicle with commercial or farm tags.

I've always had either farm or commercial tags on my crew cab dooley Chevy trucks, and they did require a policy change. When I got rid of my last truck like that, they changed my policy again.

Never had to change companies, or for that matter, underwriters. But I have had to have an entirely new, different, and/or separate policy.
