Re: Dont miss Compton in new digger
His answers were all very politically correct.
Hard questions were not followed up, interviewer was happy with PC answer. Even the IRS audits which have been happening periodically over the years. Not everyone has forgotten when they were closely investigated in the 90's.
The comment about management prior to his taking over trying to "please everyone" and therefore being "all things to all people" was telling about NHRA management focus.
He repeated what I have heard for years that Sportsman Racing will not be deleted. Although the part about not turning a profit only possibly applies to divisional and national opens. Fees paid by sportsman racers to attend national events should help to cover those losses.
Have said for years that NHRA upper management, as well as major sponsors, as well as ESPN feel and quite possibly rightly so, at this point in time Nitro is their best entertainment product to present to the general public. NHRA needs to analyze the real exposure that ESPN is providing on their stick and ball channels cause it's not that great!
By not promoting with any vigor other viable products is short sighted and a disservice to the sport in the big picture. With the popularity of all the auto restoration and auction shows maybe consider the auto enthusiast broadcasters like Speed as an outlet for Sportsman Racing. ESPN would not like it but NHRA should be exploring all their options in this weak economy.
