I have some qualification to speak on such matters, as I made a living reconstructing such accidents. Johnny Shot, whoever you may be, if you want to call me out as being unqualified or think that I am talking out of my rear end then atleast use your real name. The greater the difference in speed of the two vehicles, the greater the chance for an accident. This is fact. A good deal of lower classed cars only use a rollbar. Some of the lower classed cars use nothing. This type of accident has happen at LODRS events in the past and given the right circumstances, it will only be a matter of time before it happens at a national event. For the record, I am not a hater of the Mustangs or Dragpak Mopars. Faster closure rates aren't always a good thing. Especially a 60 MPH closure rate.
Nowhere in my post am I misinformed, as I formed my own opinion. To be misinformed would mean that I was informed with incorrect information from someone else which is not the case.
Nowhere in my post did I call you out, nor question your qualifications, nor suggest you were talking out your butt.
In my opinion, you are incorrect about getting hit at 145 mile per hour car in the door. The slow car would have to be stopped, which it is not, it would have to be sideways, which it is not. And on the odd chance that this perfect storm of yours is played out, my guess is the outcome would be bad even if the stopped driver were strapped into a Pro Stocker. I'm no physics expert, but it is impossible for a car going 145 mph to make an instant 90 degree turn and hit the target at that same speed. Should A Dragsters, Pro-Mods and all the 5 and 6 second comp cars be thrown out of comp because there are slow G Super Mods? HUGE closing speeds, same finish line games, same risk.
All this is pointless. Your safety angle (closing rate) has been used, unsuccessfully in every handicap class from brackets on up to comp.
Lastly, as mentioned any driver that feels unsafe may upgrade their safety equipment beyond the minimum standards.
There are plenty of valid reasons to re-classify these cars, closing rate is not one of them.
