Now as far as the Sequence numbers go that marfen and yourself stated, that is correct, but you still need a VIN # or half of the VIN number, (the last six digits) to make some sort of 68 B029 & L023 Hemi List, right...this is where the confusion starts when people make their own little lists or take other peoples word for it on this subject.
Also I won't get into listing everyone's VIN numbers on here, but will try to just talk about the early ones, and yes Dan Morgan's 68 Hemi Dart (297858) was thought to be the earliest know L023 VIN # or sequence # that was listed in the old NHOA club newsletters that Pete Haldiman printed back in the early 90's...That is until the Gene Snow 68 Hemi Dart (297857) showed up with a VIN # or Sequence # one digit lower.
Now if everyone starts from that first know VIN # or Sequence # will that make any B029 & L023 Hemi List correct, no...That will only happen until someone can determine the very first L023 car built...
And just to throw a wrench into the mix I have a VIN # that's even lower or Sequence # that is even lower (297833), so now what? Does this mean that there were other 68 Hemi Darts built earlier? or was this just some sort of "one off mule car" before production of these started?, or were there actually more built after this earliest one known? So you see it will be very difficult to nail down an exact number on these cars, or should I say my car is number # so & so?

My intent was not to confuse the numbering on the cars, rather I was trying to keep my serial number away from this public forum, but my hand has been forced to clear this up.
I am not a numbers guy when it comes to who has, or had certain cars & where they place on the serial number list. I am going by the first KNOWN & DOCUMENTED car which WAS Morgans car. I could really care less if my car is the #7 ( now the #8 known car) or the #47 car, I just want to find it's history prior to 1982.
You have added a great deal of info to this thread, & I really appreciate it. Thankyou
Now can we get back to the reason I posted this thread.
Here's another shot of the Wild Fire. Sorry for the poor quality.

PS How can you verify that 297833 car. Have you seen it?
