It doesn't matter what class you're in, there's always going to be somebody faster. I don't think there's too many places to "hide" if you've got a car that won't run as far under the index. Heads-up runs are going to happen once in a while. I got "spanked" pretty hard a few times when I started out years ago. If you get beat, use it as motivation to make your car faster. Some guys may have alot of dough to spend, while there are others that are pretty smart mechanically. If they've got the smarts and the dough, then you can bet that those are the type of racers that are going to be fast. Then again, they could just have a bogus factor like some of the new cars.
