I glanced at qualifying from the recent national event from Martin, MI. Highest qualified crate motor car was 12th, three tenths behind the top qualifier.
It's also interesting to me how easy it was for NHRA to "change the conversation" by knocking .30 off the indexes. Even though we all know that they were changed .30, still, you look at IHRA qualifying from Martin, and it looks crazy to see the Top 5 cars all -1.20 under or better... but in NHRA-speak, that's only -.90 under, and we glaze over it. -1.000 under is the new -1.300 under. ....You've already got 7 cars at Indy -1.40 under the "old" indexes!
The last year they had the "old" indexes, it took -1.002 under to get in (-.702 under the new indexes) Interesting that Wade Owens has run the same 11.86 as he did two years ago, currently 22nd vs 7th in 2009.

IHRA did the right thing when they saw these cars running away in qualifying.I guess when ,and this is only conjecture,you're in a manufacture's pocket you can't correct
"mistakes" veryeasily.
And Michael you're analogy about the .30 under is a moot point.You make the final 128 or you don't.
I guess NHRA and the manufactures got what they wanted,domination of the qualifying
sheet in S/SS.
