Horsepower and cost. When I went from SS/A to SS/AM I bought a 2 year old B/ED motor and qualified # 6 at the Nationals in Houston the first time out with a new car, one dominator and a manually shifted 4 speed. I could have run 2 dominators and a 5 speed. I later paid over 4 times what I gave for that motor (a 360) for a bleeding edge 347 comp motor to run C/A. Both motors crossed the stripe at 9,300. No problems or failures with either one.
