Todd you are close, but you need the early centerlink, pitman arm and idler arm (72 or older), with the motor back as far as you can get it. Then everything needs to be bent down about and inch.
One problem is the Dakota pan won't fit on a 318 or 340 without modifing the rear main cap where the back of the pan seals. All the Dakota pans use the small radius seal on the back. The pre '91 LA motors (except 360's) use the large radius oil pan seal. I think the '91 up rear main cap will fit the older motors, but this needs to be changed before the motor is line bored.
It's a great little oil pan when you get it to fit. I'm still working on it.
