And now, for something completely different...
The Mopar factory had a few prototype turbocharged slant six motors. They never did anything (production-wise) with them.
I have an acquaintence who has a 1966 Valiant with a turbocharged slant six that makes a little over 500 horsepower with the 2-valve, cast iron head, and one 4-bbl Holley carb.
It is all-steel and weighs a little over 2,800 pounds.
It runs in the tens at 127 mph in the quarter-mile, on gasoline. That's with a power-robbing 727 and 2.76:1 final drive gearing.
If a "backyard mechanic" can get this kind of output from a hairdryer-equipped, leaning tower of power, just think what the factory could have done...
