Chad beat me to it. There are differences in throttle-stop timing to run 5.70 1/8 mile and 8.90 1/4 mile. If I can find an example, I'll post it.

*edit* From the Div 4 LODRS, they are running 1/4 mile there at Houston.. Three Super Gas cars just ran. Their Indexes are 6.30 and 9.90. The three cars just ran 6.892/9.873; 6.975/9.894; 6.815/9.939. Oh, and a Super Comp (5.70 and 8.90) just ran 6.129 and 8.900.

Different setting to run the two Indexes, based on 1/8 mile race vs 1/4 mile race; hence the need for an additional time trial.

Then again, if they dropped the silly timers and stuff from the cars, there'd be no need for additional time trials. That should get me flamed...
