First off--glad to hear no-one got hurt and the trailer stayed upright.
I had a similar trailer hitch incident in 2008.
I was at Beech Bend and on Sunday I hitched up the camper trailer to go home and heard some weird popping noises while lowering the tongue onto the ball.
Didn't think much about the popping and finished chaining up --then went into the camper.
20 minutes later I came out and saw the trailer pointing downward. (stress cracks--see pics)
I got lucky nothing happened going down the road.
I now buy the largest hitch I can for my trucks...a few bucks more is worth it.
Tip:...check for cracks with the trailer hitched up and loaded.
