Here's a question that you have to ask yourself about the racer who's valves were too small. Do you really think that he thought that his motor wasn't to spec? I know that if I thought that, I'd would not even go close to the record lanes (not that I could now) knowing that there was a tear down coming. What happened there on the valves was not a "blatant" foul. If he had bigger valves(not close to spec) with ported heads I'd say take a year off, but this is just a mistake.
Also, there are no excuses for a car to be light after a qualifing pass. If you are more then 5 to 10 lbs light, you should be DQ'ed from the event.
I'm an old school racer that had Greg X. as a tech director in D1, if you didn't follow the rules to the letter, you were out. Now, we have a bleeding heart NHRA that allows people to get the rules over rided to the way they need them to be for them to race.
BTW, I own a slug, but I'm happy with it.
