Applied only to Stock and S/S...just because a racer is faster than the record does not means he automatically sets the record. If a racer wants to attempt setting a record he puts a big R on the window and pulls into the record lanes. He then must make two runs within 1% of each other, one of which must beat the existing record. If both runs are quicker than the existing record but are farther than 1% apart, the faster run will back up the slower run and that slower run becomes the record.
