Default Re: what class can i run

1970 Duster, 318 cid, 230 hp factory rating, de-rated to 185 hp by NHRA (190 hp with the NHRA-approved aftermarket cylinder head Edelbrock 60767 ). Factory shipping weight of the car is 2,834 pounds. Divide the shipping weight by the horsepower to get the weight break to determine which class(es) a car can run.

Weight break is 15.32, putting the car into O/SA (or O/S with manual transmission) With weight adjustment, can also run N/SA and P/SA.

In Super Stock, motor is rated 195 w/OEM head; 205 with Edlebrock head. Weight break is 14.53. Car falls into SS/MA, and can run SS/LA and SS/NA.

To get minimum weight for each class, take the 'top' weight break for each Class. For O/S-O/SA, 15 x 185 + 170 = 2,945 pounds min wt across the scale, with driver, at the conclusion of the run. Each Class has it's own weight break, so use that weight break to determin min wt for each eligible class.

All cars listed here that are eligible for NHRA Class Racing: http://www.nhra.com/competition/classification.aspx

Explanation of Classes, Class Weight Breaks, etc that I wrote for the site:
