It looked like the rain was going to stay north of us, and then when we were in the lanes for Q2 of Super Stock, they were proactive and sent us back to the trailer. Lots of lightning in the surrounding area, and sure enough, the wind shifted dramatically, and we got dumped on, but only for a short time. Despite the stunning humidity (Vapor Pressure over .80!), it still dried up fairly fast due to the heat. Couldn't have hurt to cool the track a little!
I have to give a HUGE thanks to Mike Volkman. As mentioned earlier, I broke the Volare last week, and was looking at missing two races. Despite having just six runs on a fresh motor, Mike didn't hesitate when I started to ask if I could drive his Sebring in the Indy completion. "Go hop in it and see how it fits!" He even offered to sit out Q2 so that I could get a time trial before Indy eliminations resumed. The rain pushed that back, and we went right into eliminations. I'm a little heavier than Mike, he blocks the tree and I watch the full tree, but we dialed off of his Q1 lap, and I crossed my fingers enough to come up with an .018 bulb the first time out in the car, enough to advance to Rnd 3 of the Indy race. Hit the scales, and then heard a nasty crunch when re-firing the car. Back in the pit, Mike found that a starter bolt had come out. It broke the nose off the starter. He had a spare, and went right to work. With Comp and the Alky cars, he finished with plenty of time before Rnd 3. I came up -.001 red this time, but in good news, legged it out for the car's best run of the weekend by far. "I think your motor's broke in now!" Great, great car, and I very much appreciate the opportunity to make a couple laps in it. Thanks so much, Mike!
