I have run across many engineers who do not know the relationship of the parts they are responsible for with the rest of the car, and a lot of times it gets them in trouble having to do costly re-work.

I was lucky to have the luxury of training under old school engineers that were hands on guys that modified or repaired their parts as needed to get the necessary results they were after. Engineering is no where like that anymore. Just being book smart didn't cut it then and doesn't cut it now.
