Re: This is an open Letter To elderly racers
This finally works. For many years, Locks of Love would not accept grey hair.
On the request of a racer's wife, who was undergoing her 2nd round of chemo, I had let my hair grow for 5 years. She told me that I had "great" hair and many ladies my age would love to have hair like mine. I had a pony tail that irritated many track operators; I coach high school baseball & the team thought it was "cool"; I was unable to get TV work because of it. and I was ready to donate, but nobody wanted my hair! Finally, in January of 2014, Locks of Love changed their policy. THEY FINALLY WOULD ACCEPT MY GIFT OF GREY HAIR. YEAHHH!!! I got a free haircut, the thanks of the ladies at Great Clips, and a nice certificate.
Was it worth the hassle? Hell Yeah! Last week, while grocery shopping, one of my former players introduced me to his Aunt. He had told her my "pony tail" story. She laughed, told me she had completed her chemo regimen, and asked how I liked her new hair. It was grey, she was thrilled...and I got a big hug & thank you from her. Was it my hair she had....no, but it doesn't matter.
Any age, there is a need for your hair. So let it grow...irritate somebody! It's worth it.
