Re: 71 Duster has been given a gift ? why
Very few 71 Mopar run the Aluminum Replacement head because
they do not make any more horsepower that the Iron heads in their
experience. Those were the only 71 Mopar to get a "GIFT" the iron
heads only have gone up over the year (Original 275 in 1971 now 314).
I do not know a thing about the Big Block combos....They do not run D/E/F
so I do not follow them.
Our cars dead hook and run 1.3s 60 with the front ends tied down and shocks
as tight as they will go. At Sea Level we still sometimes put 50 Lbs. weight
in front to keep our little cars in control.... Why the Heck would we want
less weight on the front of our already 50/50 cars.
In heads up races we have beaten the replacement head Mopars.
In heads up races we have lost to the Firebirds EVERY time in over
TWENTY races in last ten years and by 2 to 5 Tenths!
Lets see: 400/455 Pontiac Firebird...... 306 HP to 325 HP(prior to Jan 2015)
Lets see: 340 Mopar ...... 314 HP............................................
60/115 More CID and Bigger Valves in the Birds AND as much less as
8 HP less in than our peashooters and in the worse case maybe 11 HP more
in the 400s
My boy and I are the about the ONLY guys consistently running the 71 340
cars in Div 7 with you every race other than Jerry Hatch!
(Again the Iron Head Version = NOT the Replacement Head that was refactored).............
Our cars have been factored from 275 HP when I started racing them
to now 314HP. In the same time the Pontiac Firebirds have stayed the same
or even been lowered like the 455. Year after year they Kick our B*TT
and laugh at us behind our back for racing such an over factored small block combo.
So we must be the lazy Mopar racers you are referring to in your post today.
You guys should spend some time in our garage and watch us
constantly testing our cars at the track and working on them....
THEN looks us in the Eye and tell us we are LAZY!
Times are still very hard here in Nevada and we can not spend the kind
of money some racers in better economic opportunity areas are blessed
to have the resources to do.
Maybe NHRA should lower the indexes about a second and the rest of us
lazy guys who run 8 under doing the best they know how to...... can go back to just Bracket
Racing and leave Stock and Super Stock to our Fortunate Brothers!
My 25 year old son has spent around $14,000 on his .8 under car (He work 7 days a week to be racing)
and gets slammed head up regularly by people routinely spending triple the money to
go a couple tenths faster.
Kindly remit him a check for about $10,000 or $15,000. to spend on his stocker and we will see if
all the Pontiacs are still a mile faster.
To get a HP Change - the Class Average must be .85 under is my understanding.
While Jerrys car often ran .9 to .95 in excellent conditions our TWO cars only would run
.7 to .8 under even hopped up with light Oil and Heads Up Mode on the same day. Like
most racers we run our cars in Normal Bracket Mode with regular Mobil One and not
Iced and cooled down if there is no incentive to beat up our expensive investments... so usually
maybe 5 to 65 under any given normal race. The HP Changes are based on average NOT
a single hopped up Killer Car unless it goes 1.2 under. Correct me if I am incorrect about how
the factoring system works.
My understanding is that the 71 340 Class average was only .72 under....NOT even close to
.85.
l
BTW Bogus: My 71 Mopar has been torned down several times and always legal as has every single
stocker we have every raced...............How many times
has that Pontiac been to the Barn?
I can bring both a pair of Aluminum and Iron Small block and a scale to Pomona.........
If there is 90 to 100 Lbs difference = I will EAT THEM!!!!!!!!!!!
