In the case of AMC, the issue is probably that the stock strut rods are 45 years old and they are not something that gets looked at very often. If aftermarket OEM type replacements were available, that's one thing, but "aftermarket" as a description can open up a can of worms. "Aftermarket" is not a panacea for suspension failures nor brake failures. I have seen just as many aftermarket parts break as OEM design parts.
I am not slamming Scott for anything, just don't want to pull another brick out of the wall on an emotional, knee jerk response.
