Default Re: Recommend a Transmission Vendor (Ford)

Thanks for the quick replies. The actual trans - the gear part - seems to be OK. I'm most concerned that I picked a converter with too high a stall speed for the street/strip application that I wound up with.

It's a TCI StreetFighter with a 3000-3500 stall. OK for a trailer car but I think I need something more like 2500. I have 3.89 gears and a CompCams solid roller with a .585 lift. It has a power range from 2200-6500rpm. With a 28 inch tire the math I've been able to find tells me I should have a stall of around 2500-2700 rpm for a 60 mph cruise to get the trans to lock up.

With stall speed closer to the bottom of the power range is should street and cruise better. I give up a bit at the strip but at least I get there to race.

PA has a better trans brake with an internal solenoid and deeper oil pickup so I'm going to start with ordering that. The TCI brake/valve body I have has a rather shallow pickup and might have starved the trans under acceleration. Part number 26306.

They also have an 11 inch converter with a stall of 2200-2800 on a 10.5 bolt circle. Part number 26212.

These are both items that I would have to order separately no matter what trans vender I go to if it doesn't fix the problem with fluids (gears seem fine - no grinding), so I won't be stuck with more parts if I do replace the trans.

As much as I love the NorthWest, stuff like this makes me wish I was back in Ohio. Toss it in the truck and run up over the border to Joy road. End of story.

Thanks.
