Default Re: Stock-S/S Combo at Milan Dragway This Sunday

Sorry for the late reply. We had 12 cars - a light turnout - but good veteran racers that put together some really good racing. As an aside, the overall turnout at Milan was very, very light for their bracket points series - about 25 cars in the 1/8 mile box and maybe 30 in the no box class. Its the middle of July and lots of people are on vacation, it was HOT and there was a threat of rain.

Anyway, as RocknRolla reported, Jimmy Ronzello took the win in his stick shift 2010 CJ over Russ Abrams in his SS/JA 73 Firebird.

Jimmy was tough all day - he and Dan Olding had a really good race in the Semis with Jimmy running a 9.18 on a 9.17 and Dan running right on his 11.07 dial - the difference was very low 3 digits. That's the kind of racing day it was for everybody.

Jimmy just finished this CJ - aka "the Mule" - that is owned by Joel Rabe. This body was one of the original test cars from Ford Racing that had been striped of many of its parts and was left in storage. Joel picked it up last year and Jimmy and George Wright put it together. Jimmy says its the tenth CJ they have assembled.

Charlie Downing made the 30 mile drive to Milan with his Modular CJ. Team Sponsor Bob Downing was on hand - and it wasn't sure of he was going to jump in Kevin Zaskowski's E/SA Camaro that rides in the trailer with Charlie's CJ.

And we had a new car - and I thought this was very cool. Many of you will remember the W/SA 68 Chevelle Wagon of Gordon Carey driven by Mike Warren. They pulled the drivetrain out of the wagon ad out it in a really nice 68 Camaro for V/SA. A number of the Milan regulars asked me about the car - how can a 6 with a glide go that fast - and it was running pretty fast despite the hot air and 3500 FT density altitude. Mike and Gordon are stocker racers from way back and have had some cool cars over the years. I was smilin' when I saw this one.

Another new racer that joined us was Mike Meinert with his clean GT/FA 71 Camaro. Mike's Camaro that is driven by his Wife Mary had been parked for a few years and he just freshened the engine. Unfortunately. the trans decided on the first run that it needed to be freshened too. Mike and Mary will be back.
