Won't take sides in the new car debate but I will add some food for thought.
In 2008 (the last year before ANY new cars showed up) there were 169 Stockers on the final sheet at Indy and the bump was .938-under.
In 2015, there are 177 cars on the sheet after Q1 and the bump is .798-under but I'd anticipate that I will be in the .90-92 under range by the time we're done.
Obvious conclusion: If I want t run Indy, I'd better have a car that can run .92-under or quicker.
Also have to wonder what it was like in the late 1960s when the Super Stock eliminator was a 32 car field (mostly class winners) and there were as many as 200 cars on the entry list. Hard to imagine sending that many drivers home early but then again, we had 4 national events in 1968.
