Danny Durham
1968 Chevy II ....Teal Blue....
350/295 Muncie 4 speed...2.5 first and 4.88's
Schiefer PP with a GM disc...Hurst super shifter...Hooker Headers.
Lakewood bars....M&H tires...7" on 4" wide wheels....air pressure was very low but that was what many of us did to get traction...

Made for a very uncomfortable ride sometimes at 112-113MPH

T/K built engine.....We re-rung it ourselves at Tony Feil's....after 1 season...

Pistons were Forgedtru's.....popular back then......
Tried about 3 cams.....
I preferred the Lunati over 2 other GK's.....
The Lunati could run more rpm without floating the valves.
Stock springs had about 84lbs on the seat....!

Had a lot of trouble keeping a trans in good shifting condition......stock syncros did not like missed gears....One miss and that was not good....
Springs went away and 2 MPH's were gone.....

Was hard to hook in poor traction conditions with that trans and rear gear.

Changing transmission first gear and maybe flywheel and or rear gear would have helped in mid summer on poor traction...

We had no benefit from concrete.....most tracks were asphalt and traction was limited...

All stick cars spun off the line a little....on a real bad track it spun a lot....
On a real good track you could bog it......Was very touchy..........I never stopped working on it or fixing it and we did not have much of a budget

Trans....valve springs....trying different crazy setups with the slapper bars.....all added up to working on it practically every night at the gas station I worked at....

Setting that record and winning Stock Eliminator at 2 different tracks on the same weekend was a couple high points with it....

We intended to assemble it with an automatic trans at first...
We thought a Turbo was going to be allowed....it was not...P/G only
I just hated P/G's back then and thought they would never work.....!
WRONG !!!
Bernie Agaman put the same type car together and it ran very well right away.....with the P/G. Ran as fast as the Mopars of the era that ruled the class......

We would have been way better off had we ran it with a P/G.....

Hindsight is 20-20
