I recall this as the Feb. 8, 1970 Pro Stock race at OCIR the week following the Winternationals at Pomona. 16 car qualified field. April 70 HRM article by John Dianna page 32. Short text only covers late rounds. I have seen other articles on the event but can't find them at the moment. Schartman and Bob (or Jerry?) Jenkins driving Rettig brothers Dart were both entered.
- Feb. 8 70 US ProStock Championship race at OCIR Sox qualifies low at 9.86 (70 Cuda), with 69 Barracuda (ex match racer) qualified 2nd at 9.95 (Butch Leal drove 69 car) Sox red lights in second round against Booth. Leal runs 9.97/138.88 to beat Bob Lambeck in Dick Landy’s 2nd team car with a 10.46/132.54. Nicholson beats Leal 10.00 to a late 9.97 and Bill Jenkins wins race at 9.87 beating a red lighting Nicholson with at 9.93.[DN 19700215] [HRM4/70]
- Drag News story Feb. 15, 1970 issue states Bob (or Jerry?) Jenkins wins first round 10.44/130.62 against red lighting Dick Landy. A broken torque converter caused him to not make 2nd round.
