I think the previous poster was pointing out that the current statistics of potentially impacted races are skewed because the faster car sees the red and then hits the tree harder as a result. It is a fair point, but I could imagine that there are also drivers who become by distracted by the red and don't hit the tree as hard.

At any rate, the number of impacted races does not change the good principle behind the system.
I'd expect in most cases the faster car lays off the tree and saves the equipment skewing the current results away from red lights.
Installing it would seem to even the playing field and I don't think it would take spectators long to understand it.
