Most tow companies in all states hold personal property whether it is legal or not and most people pay up and never push the issue. It appears laws in Florida heavily favor tow companies. Most tow bills I have seen that we have paid on Florida have an admin fee of $30.00-$295.00 listed, Outside storage of $50.00 per day, Mileage fee $3.00 loaded. Hook up fee $101.00 and up. Fuel surcharge $3.00 up, Vin check $2.00, Municipality fee $15.00 and up, Labor/waiting time fee , Covering $.50 per day, Lien notice fee $95.00 and up, and postage fees. These are just the normal items billed on almost every tow. In Jeff's case I'm sure there is a lot more. Pretty much a legal ripoff from what I have seen if they think an insurance company of footing the bill. Not all tow companies are like that but many take complete advantage of the situation. Good luck with resolving your situation Jeff.
