I could see that with stiff springs Mike, the shock isn't really dampening the spring movement. As to shock placement, when Tom Rix was running the Buick in Top Stock we were at a race and I heard IHRA told Monty Bogan to fix the shock mounts on the rear suspension of his Corvette. I told them it wasn't just the shock mounts that were beating all of us, it was the way underfactored engine!
