Had a circle track engine come in years ago to the engine apart the crank was not all that bad but was concerned about the scratches on the journals only to find the plug was missing under the rear main cap. The crank polished up fine, But it could have been worse.
Also rebuilt an old 283 from back in the early 60 and back then the oil filter was an option the engine had over 60000 miles on it but the crank was not as bad as I thought it would be. I did get rid of the big welch plug the covered where the filter went on and put a plugged oil filter adapter on.
How many people say you will not have oil pressure if you leave that plug out, LOL
