I loved the Pintos, Vegas, 303 powered Rocket 88's, and Corvairs back in the IHRA day's. Three of the "old" IHRA Stock killers with "odd balls" were Ray Head in a 1960 impala 283 2bbl., Randall Campbell (a current NHRA runner) in his inline six nova wagon, and J.T. Allan in his 200" V6 Malibu. I know Randall and Ray both won IHRA Stock Championships, and I am pretty Sure J.T. Allen got a crown also. These guys cut a 00 light every run and you could see the tail light glow as they cross the finish line. Back then It was how you drove, not how fast you ran. I for one would love to see more of these car built. I miss the diversity that was present back in the day.
I remember catching J.T with the wrong pistons in his V-6. They were for another engine combo and had a much smaller dish C.C. volume at Bristol. He never came back and I heard he went boating. Must have embarrassed him pretty badly.....LOL
Randall and Ray always were straight shooters and were tough racers.
