Fairlanes and Torinos of that era used a 2 piece Z bar/cross shaft, 1 section fits inside the other, a bolt holds it together. This Z bar is known to flex and deform, especially with old style pressure plates. Years ago, I owned a 69 428CJ 4 speed Cobra fastback, that a previous owner had swapped over to a 1 piece 69 428CJ Mustang Z bar.Not sure what all had to be done to make the Mustang bar fit, but even the 2 piece unit should be fine with a modern low pressure clutch setup.
