I guess it depends on how you look at it. After winning a race like that, he has now earned the privilege of being able to tell people that he beat a '63 VW to the finish line by half a fender.
And if he had lost that race, how on earth would an SS/AH driver ever be able to explain it to a lay person?
I think the diversity that affords lop-sided mis-matches like this, are the stuff that makes drag racing great.
