It's really hard to believe that in 2019 they are still totally hopeless when it comes to technology.

I was among the first groups to do live internet coverage, and trust me it was a real struggle to even get tower access at all. NHRA didn't know technology, didn't understand it, couldn't see it being useful, and were more or less afraid of it.

Watching the slow progression, I'm pretty much convinced there wouldn't be even as much as there is now if it hadn't been for Phil Burgess. Very early on, he realized what was going to happen and worked hard pushing the bosses to get involved. In a culture like the NHRA, where "drinking the kool-aid" has been a thing for years, it was a brave thing to do.

Eventually they did, but it has always been a grudging thing where they really didn't want to do anything until they were forced to - at every step they made.

I'm no longer in the tower at races, and haven't been directly connected to people who know what's going on. But this TV thing looks like their approach hasn't changed - don't spend money that could go to salaries and golden parachutes. If you absolutely have to do something, find the cheapest vendor you can. Not know enough (or care to learn) about what needs to be done to provide a solid product, and just accept the sales pitch.

And the last critical parts - not insisting there be a performance clause in the contract. And refusing to pay for onsite support because it costs more.
