Don't have a dog in the hunt. So, this is just an outsider opinion.
I've raced 1/8 mile, 1000', 1/4 mile, & even a real short track on the front straight of the circle track at the Louisiana State Fair grounds. I think it was just over 400'.
Whether you're dial-your-own break-out racing, or heads-up racing, it's just as fair for one as the other. The car must be correctly set up to run whatever distance the track is. You still have to cut a good lights & either run consistent ET's or run quicker than your heads-up opponent.
I can see however, that some of the really fast guys would not like a shorter track, because it might cause them to cross at closer to 100mph than 150mph. The throttle-stop, high speed racing has proven that some guys insist on going real fast on the big end.
I assume that quite a few guys would quit racing, if the race length was reduced to 1000', in their class. Is this correct ?
The Nitro cars are still going well over 300mph. So, how fast would the fastest Stock & SS cars be going, if they changed their set-up for only 1000' tracks ?
