You are correct about the bearing journals; they operate on a hydrodynamic film of oil and should never touch.

The Micronite and Omicron surface finish helps the rough surfaces of the crankshaft, making them smoother and polished. The process consists of placing the part in a vibratory tumbler, with a specific media and run it for a specific amount of time. It also helps camshafts, lifters, connecting rods, valve retainers and valve springs.
