Maverick, Comet and Mustangs from the mid to late 60s share the same PIA engine bay and chassis. On my Mustang I have to use a tilt head torque wrench to get on the bolt head square and a lot of push. I found that the lower the car the better. Take the front wheels off and lower it onto jack stands as low as possible. The alternative is to raise the engine to get past the shock towers as best as possible. I try to limit this stuff to when the motor is out. For me that's every Winter. If you can, change to 12 point bolt heads. They are easier to grip at an angle. I heard a guy talking about his Porsche Carrera and he has to pull the motor to change the plugs, so it could be worse...
