You guys are both close. And it depends on what your tuner does. The commanded rail pressure should be run at 180 BAR based on my experience. Several tune ups I have seen a commanded WOT rail pressure set at 200 BAR. The issue is that these High Pressure pumps are piston type and driven by a lobe on the rear of the cam.
As an OEM deal they were never expected to turn 7800+ RPM. they tend to want to float above that RPM. The control valve has a hard time controlling rail pressure. There is a high pressure safety that goes into limp mode somewhere near 220 BAR.
If set at 180 BAR it doesn't hit the High Pressure safety. If set at 200 it can and has.
The more pressure that we applied to the feed pump (tank) the less issue with high pressure pump float. We ran 110 PSI to the back of the Rail pump. It really likes about 140 but most regulators are not built to run that high. Screw Pump in tank worked well.
