They regulated our trucks, our warehouse and even our parking lot. They tell us who we could employee and keep statistics on our employees by race and gender.
Our journeyman cost us over $72.00hr to employ and we were having a hard time getting apprentices who were willing to work. Most young people don’t want to work hard and move through the apprenticeship program. They want government hand outs and wages beyond what their skill levels are and the politicians will make sure they get it in return for votes. But then the complaints start all over again as the cost of living outpaces their handouts and minimum wages. A vicious cycle that needs to end.
When in Rome do as the Romans do. My wife is a Wage Compliance Officer monitoring prevailing wage on public works jobs. Recovering this year $3.5 million in wages that workers are cheated out of by management, the majority are out of state and nonunion employers. She is a retired Deputy Labor Commissioner. If you want to come to this state you will hear from people just like her. Floating through an apprenticeship has gotten harder here, example are electricians have to pass a certification test after school, you don’t pass you don’t work. So slacking off in school won’t work. And lowballing a bid on a contract and then complaining about what you have to pay your employees is nonsense. I push a lot of military personnel to consider the trades.
