Re: Transporting car thru Canada without registration (title
First of all, it would seem you don't have to cross any borders to make
that trip. The US route may be a bit longer, take it. If you bring a titled car
to the Canadian Border, and say we are just cutting through, the Border
officer thinks to himself, hmm, what if they leave this car in Canada, and
I didn't collect taxes and duties, and it comes up down the road, I'm in
deep doodoo. Without a title you can declare the car as "Parts Only"
like is done on the non-serialized COPO's, Cobra Jet's, etc. but the price of the parts on the declaration is what you paid for the car. Because it is a motorized vehicle, as opposed to a race car trailer for example, you must have the importation paperwork completed and in front of Canada Customs at least 72 hours before you attempt entry. What you get when you get there, as Forrest Gump said Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what your going to get. Get a great officer, almost painless, except the taxes and duty you will pay. Get a not so great officer, who's really pissed at their spouse, and you'll wish you took the Michigan-Florida-Maine-New York route, far less painful.
