Default Re: Will the '08 Challenger be a legal Nhra AA/SA Stocker???

It’s kind of interesting to speculate what class’s the Challenger will fit in. As I mentioned in another thread in the latest edition of Mopar Muscle there is a small blurb about the Drag Pack car and a large article complete with full specks of the SRT8. The SRT8 has a shipping weight of over 4100# and correct me if I’m wrong but looking at the classification guides there are no ratings for the motor yet. NHRA would have to give the motor a real stout rating right out of the box something like 500hp for the SRT8 to make its way to A/SA however the Drag Pack car being so much lighter It could go AA right out of the box based on the factory hp rating. From Jeff’s comments about the power potential of the new Hemi it could make it a real good combo. Depending on how NHRA handles the car in the classification guide it could make for a real versatile car with the different engine combinations that will be available it should fit in a lot of different classes. However on the other hand the standard Challenger and SRT8 may not be all that appealing at 4100# shipping weight. And, the Drag pack car if it gets much more than the factory HP rating may only work as a SS car. The Drag Pack car might be a little bit of a risky buy if your intentions are to run stock if it got hit with hp a few times it could have no home in stock.
