Default Re: Oil recomendations

Are you talking about VR1? Sure, it's a racing oil, and it's been around for decades. I used it to break in the flat tappet cam I put in my truck, and I also put in a bottle of GM EOS for even more zinc. However, I'm not sure it's necessarily the best choice for a stock or super stock oil. If you want to run a conventional oil, Valvoline's "Racing Conventional" (link) may be the ticket, or you might want to look into Brad Penn oils (link) - it's the old green Kendall GT-1. The difference between VR1 and Racing Conventional is that VR1 has more detergents and dispersants so it can be used as a street/strip oil, whereas Racing Conventional has very little detergent and dispersant content, so it's a track-only oil. All Valvoline racing oils have the same zinc content.
If you're changing your oil and filter every 15 passes, and especially if you're doing that with synthetic oil, you might want to send a sample to Terry Dyson (link) to see if you really need to change it that frequently.
