I've never run a gauge either, but I do know that my car picks up a touch if I get on the two step too early, and it picks up after the warm-up pass, coolant temp is always the same.
I've also run a trans without a cooler, saw no difference there, but I keep the cooler on my good transmission.
New converter was good for .01 in 60ft hahaha. But it skys the front end now. Ya my car always picks up after the first run..engine oil hot, rear, trans. The trans doesnt like to be over 125 degrees. Every time I warm it up it slows the car down. When its cold it or under 125 all is good. Hard to explain. Theres only one race left for us this year and I really dont care about consistancy any more...i want to go fast now that the good air have just arrived.
