Boby, I see nobody answered this. I don't claim to know as much as others here, but did expriment with this on my bracket car (soon to be super stock I hope). Mine is a '96 Firebird with an LT1. Factory EFI and still has the original 4L60E, so voltage is probably more important than a carb car. With the alternator shut off, mine lost 6 or 7 rwhp on my chassis dyno, very consistantly. So, I figured a 16 volt battery & no alternator would run close to the same voltage going down the track as a 12 volt with the alternator charging. It does, but makes the same power, and runs the same times at the track as the 12 volt & alternator.

My power windows are faster with the engine shut off. <G>
