Re: Please Pray for Phil Berg
Phil was released from the hospital late Friday and is continuing his recovery at home. Paul, Phil and I and the rest of our family really appreciated your thoughts and prayers with this very serious matter that Phil went through. Please continue to pray for him as he continues his recovery.
Phil was with us at the last SSSSA race at Gainesville and enjoyed talking with a number of folks out there. He isn't a member of Class Racer yet, so he asked me to post a message for him. The following is a cut and paste of the message that Phil sent to me:
Good Morning Mark,
You know how much I appreciate your help in this time but I'd like to send a personal message (thru you) to the SSSSA. Gainesville (Nov.) was the first time that I've been able to see the 'cast of characters'
that make up the SSSSA. They were lotsa fun, as I had an idea that they would be, of course 'HAMMER',
has to lighten up on my poor defenseless big brother, Paul. The leadership really tries to make it a fun time,
and in time of big budgets in drag racing, it takes you back to a better time when fun was OK.
So much for the opening, I want thank each of you for your prayers on my behalf in my recent physical
'scare'. As most of you know, through the efforts of my brothers, Paul & Mark, news got out about my hospital stay and thus your support for someone you hardly knew. Paul & I have been around drag racing
since the 'SFTA' in the 50/60s when Ernie Schorb organized drag racing at the abandoned WWII air bases
around Miami and have always treasured our friendships. It's mostly a fun, caring group. Mark wanted to get into drag racing in recent years, so he got the '85 Camaro and always liked (as Paul &I) the stick cars, so that's what he got. Needless to say, stick cars, are a lot different that they were when we were racing, so it's been quite an education. Paul, never one to shrink from a challenge (even at 65 years 'young') has really had a great time, plus, the 3 of us really enjoy being together. Sorry to burden you with so much history but since there has been so much drag racing in our past, I thought that I'd share a bit.
Back on the 'physical' front, I'm doing well since I got out of the hospital, 12/26. The Doctor is opptimistic
about full recovery, so I'm verythankful. I was 'hit' with it 12/18am at work and a couple of those days are 'addois'. It was the worst headache that I ever had along with the water just pouring off my body. I know that this was tooooo long winded but I wanted to give a little of our background. Thanks again for your support,
and great to get to know many of you.
Phil Berg
Thanks again everybody and have a Happy New Year!
